A MarTech stack diagram is a single-page map of every tool your marketing team runs, grouped into layers by the job each one does — data foundation, attract, capture, nurture, create and measure. It turns an invoice list into an architecture you can actually reason about, and it makes overlap, gaps and wasted spend obvious at a glance.
Most teams cannot draw their own stack from memory. That is the problem — you cannot rationalise what you cannot see. This page gives you a free, editable PowerPoint template to map yours in about twenty minutes, plus the six layers to use and how to read the finished picture.

Group by job to be done, not by vendor. Six layers cover almost every B2B and B2C stack:
| Layer | What it does | Typical tools |
|---|---|---|
| Data foundation | The single source of truth every other layer reads from | CRM, CDP, data warehouse |
| Attract | Bringing the right people to you | SEO, paid ads, social, content distribution |
| Capture | Turning visitors into known contacts | Forms, landing pages, chat |
| Nurture | Moving contacts towards a decision | Email, marketing automation, sequences |
| Create | Producing and publishing the work itself | Content tools, design, AI co-pilot |
| Measure | Proving what worked and what to cut | Analytics, attribution, dashboards |
The average mid-market team runs around 28 tools but uses only about a third of what it pays for. The diagram is how you find that third — and the layers where nothing is automated at all.
Three patterns show up almost every time:
A crowded Attract layer. Marketing tools are easy to buy, so the top of the stack accumulates. Two or three overlapping tools here is normal; five is a budget conversation.
A thin Create layer. Most stacks have a writing tool and nothing else, because the eight steps after the draft (brand voice, images, SEO metadata, schema, publishing, internal links, verification) are done by people. That is the draft-to-published gap, and it is where most of the week goes.
A disconnected Data foundation. If the layers do not read from one source of truth, every report disagrees. Fix this before buying anything else.
Once the picture is drawn, score it. Our MarTech stack audit template puts numbers against each tool, how to build a B2B MarTech stack covers the rebuild sequence, and B2B vs B2C stacks explains why your architecture should differ by model. The full context sits in the complete guide to MarTech stacks.
Marketing Mary is the AI Co-Pilot that covers all nine content steps — research to published and verified — inside the stack you already run.

Yes — it is an editable PowerPoint file with no email gate. Three slides: instructions, a blank layered canvas to fill in, and a worked B2B example.
Six covers almost every team: data foundation, attract, capture, nurture, create and measure. Delete any layer you do not run rather than inventing tools to fill it.
Once a quarter, or before any renewal or new purchase. Stacks grow quietly — a quarterly redraw catches the drift before the invoices do.
